If you’re looking for fun things to do in summer, then look no further than summertime Disney style. While the Disneyland Resort is ALWAYS at the top of the “fun stuff to do in Orange County” list, this summer this is especially true. Travel under the sea (on the new Little Mermaid ride), to a galaxy far, far away (on the new & improved Star Wars ride), I haven’t even mentioned the brand new Soundsational Parade yet, & you can’t forget World of Color, the famous Disneyland fireworks, plus all your other favorite Disneyland attractions.
Little Mermaid Ride
Set in & around Ariel’s underwater world & located on the Paradise Pier inside Disney California Adventure, you are sure to love Ariel’s Undersea Adventure. Adventurers on this new attraction will feel as if they are descending below the ocean’s surface. Once you are “under the sea,” the classic story begins… riding in your own colorful “clamshell” vehicle you be able to participate in Ariel’s adventure first hand.
First you will visit Ariel in grotto, where she keeps the treasures she has found on land – whozits, whatzits and thingamabobs – and sings “Part of Your World.”
Next, you will enjoy a dazzling musical extravaganza with an underwater party atmosphere, dozens of singing and playing marine creatures try to encourage Ariel to remain “Under the Sea.” The conductor, of course, is Sebastian the crab.
Continuing on in Ariel’s adventure, you visit Ursula’s lair, featuring the slithering henchmen Flotsam and Jetsam and Ursula herself (7½-feet tall and 12-feet wide, from tentacle tip to tentacle tip), singing her signature piece, “Poor Unfortunate Souls.”
Next, as Ariel’s wish to be human is granted, you follow her up to the ocean surface, where you will witness Ariel’s friends encouraging Prince Eric to “Kiss the Girl.” This inspires a stormy response from the villainous Ursula and leads to the finale, which holds some surprises – even for those who know and love the motion picture.
Star Wars Ride
Based on Star Wars films, the new & improved Star Tours ride will now be thrilling guest in 3-D! After winding through the spaceport, you will board the Starspeeder 1000 spacecraft and prepare for Star Tours Flight #1401. Through a series of mishaps, however, C-3PO finds himself in the pilot’s seat, and it’s up to him and R2-D2 to navigate their passengers through the galaxy. However, the tyrannical Empire is out to stop the Starspeeder at all costs. C-3PO and R2-D2 take the controls and try to outwit and outrun the Imperial forces and a galactic bounty hunter hired to pursue the spaceship and its passengers.
But the best part (in my humble opinion)?! The new Star Tours features multiple stories and scenarios that will hurtle park guests throughout the Star Wars galaxy! Yep! Yep! Star Tours utilizes 50+ random story combinations, so you can ride again & again, with a different adventure each time. Whether it’s a battle with Darth Vader and his legion of stormtroopers or a plea from Princess Leia to help her save the Rebellion, you will find yourself in the middle of the action – literally.
Disneyland’s new “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” comes alive through the fun and lively rhythms of drumlines, percussion teams and jazz horns.
Mickey Mouse leads the parade (& demonstrates his own rhythmic prowess sitting atop the first float and playing an acoustic drum set). Just ahead of Mickey’s float are six live drumline musicians who drive the beat and set the tone for the entire parade. Following Mickey, you will be entertained by the Genie, Aladdin & his pet monkey Abu. From there, the parade takes guests “Under the Sea,” with everyone’s favorite mermaid, Ariel, taking center stage.
After Ariel, the Three Caballeros introduce the spirited sounds of Latin America with Flower dancers and piñata dancers, Donald Duck, Jose and Panchito (Donald’s friends from the 1944 classic film, “The Three Caballeros”). Disney’s newest heroine, Rapunzel, leads a royal procession which includes Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Snow White.
Following closely behind are the Disney jungle inhabitants, including Simba perched majestically atop Pride Rock. The parade next transports guests to New Orleans and the world of Princess Tiana, Mardi Gras dancers & tambourines that beat in celebration as they surround Tiana’s riverboat.
And no Disney Parade is complete without a Neverland Adventure with Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Captain Hook, Mr. Smee and some bumbling pirates. & Finally, Mary Poppins and her friend Bert bring “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” to a close riding astride two carousel horses that appear to have just leaped from their perches in search of a musical adventure.
