Strand Beach in Dana Point

Orange County beaches are world-famous. But with miles of coastline & too many beaches to count – that’s no surprise. And while you probably already have a favorite beach, if you’re looking for something new, or feeling adventurous check out Coleen’s favorite… Strand Beach in Dana Point (aka Strands).

Strand Beach in Dana Point

Strands is one of my favorite beaches in all of Orange County.  Although I have to warn you – this beach isn’t for the faint of heart, because to get to Strands you either have a trek down a hill or steps, or wait for the elevator (funicular).

I highly recommend the elevator,  it’s the highlight of the trip for my kids, the views are absolutely amazing & it’s FREE. (The elevator is usually open daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends and holidays the rest of the year.)

Once you arrive at Strands, the beach itself is paradise – plenty of smooth sand, so kids can play and moms can relax. The narrow but wide beach is ideal for sand castle building, plus there are restrooms, showers & drinking fountains located on the beach & in the parking lot. & Did I mention that the parking is FREE?!

Strands may take an little extra effort,  but it’s definitely worth it.

Strand Beach in Dana Point Location:

Strand Beach is located at 33971 Selva Road Dana Point, CA. Take PCH to Selva, & park for FREE in the Salt Creek Beach Park parking lot.

  1. I miss, severely, the old Sbux outside The Ritz-Carlton! Walking the Selva Steps, powerwalking the beach, back up the hill and around the hotel … only to land at my Starbucks and a waiting, Raspberry Iced Americano was the perfect end to hearty sport. Zut alors! In fact, even though it’s been long gone, I wrote it, and my Americano, into “The Darlings of Orange County”. Now, it’s immortalized in California-literature!)
    Cheers :)
