08.30.2010 | OC DinDin-A-GoGo

Orange County is quickly becoming food truck country & it is fabulous! The latest thing on the scene is the OC DinDin-A-GoGo which is promising to “revolutionize dinner one city at a time.”

Based on the wildly popular DinDin-A-GoGo that happens every Thursday evening at K1 Speed in Gardena (from 5:30-9pm), the OC version will be hosted by the Tropical Shave Ice Truck every Wednesday evening right here in Orange County, at K1 Speed in Irvine (from 5:30 – 9pm).

Each week the OC DinDin-A-GoGo will feature 2 -5 different trucks, in order to keep things “fresh.” (Kinda of like the OC Foodie Fest, but on a much smaller scale & there are no admission fees, so you can spend that extra money on food!) So bring your lawn chairs & some cash (not all of the trucks accept credit cards), & don’t forget your blankets & sweatshirts, because we can guarantee you’ll want to make an evening of it. Finally everyone in your family will be able to have exactly what they want for dinner. With multiple food trucks on site, you can be sure that there will be something for everyone to love.

What: OC DinDin-A-GoGo
When: Wednesday Evenings, 5:30-9pm
Where: K1 Speed Irvine, 17221 Von Karman Ave., Irvine, CA 92614

07.15.2010 | Orange County deals & coupons

I’m sure I’m not the only one trying to save my pennies. That’s why I am LOVING all of these new “deal” sites springing up in Orange County. Just because I’m saving my money for a rainy day, doesn’t mean I can’t go out & play today! If you don’t already receive these coupons, deals, bargains or perks in your inbox every morning, you must sign up TODAY! Many of these offers are the best (& cheapest) way to truly experience Orange County.

Screamin Coupons: Once you sign up, you will receive daily deals on the best in your community – at 50% to 90% off. What sets Screamin Coupons apart from some of the other sites? They “give 5% – 10% of their proceeds back to local schools and non-profits.” All you have to do is select your school when you sign up & your school will earn a portion of each of your purchases.

Groupon: Each day they feature “something cool to do at an unbeatable price.” However, you only get the deal if enough people join that day…. so if you see something that intersts you, you better tell your friends.

Friendly Bargains: They “strive to bring you deals on the best stuff to DO, EAT, and SEE in your city at an amazing discount. Each day, Friendly Bargains features fabulous local deals at unbelievable discounts.” Plus, each day a different local charity is featured, receiving a portion of that days’ bargain proceeds.

Deal Perk: Each day they offer a new & exciting “perk.” If enough people “get in on the perk,” everyone gets the deal.

Orange County Register’s Deal of the Day: “Each day one incredible deal is featured as the Deal of the Day. The offer is only available for a limited amount of time, so make sure to check back frequently so you don’t miss out… Usually a minimum number of purchases is required before the deal reach a “tipping point” and becomes available to everyone.”

OC Deals: The original Orange County deal site. Marla Fisher posts almost daily with “freebies, deals and discounts from and for Orange County shoppers.”

04.01.2010 | Joe’s Italian Ice

Just in time for summertime, I’ve found my latest addiction… Joe’s Italian Ice. (Just thinking about it, & I’m feeling the cravings coming on.) As an Orange County transplant, this new-to-me tasty treat has something for everyone. Just down the way from Disneyland, I’ve probably driven by Joe’s hundreds of times, yet never stopped. Luckily, a reader recommended Joe’s Italian Ice, & boy am I glad she did – now, I can’t get enough of the place.

Joe’s is definitely what I would call a “hole-in-the-wall.” Located on a lonely stretch of road, just outside the hustle & bustle of Anaheim, it’s one of those places you drive by wondering if it’s any good, & if you should stop. Let me tell you here & now – STOP! STOP! STOP! You won’t be disappointed.

Joe’s Italian Ice specializes in “Authentic Philly Style Water Ice,” which they make homemade, with fresh fruits, on a daily Basis. (Think shaved ice, but not really. Unlike shaved ice that is simply shaved ice with flavoring on top, Italian Ice is made by the same process by which ice cream is made, resulting in a delicious, almost creamy-like concoction, that is amazing!) Having “perfected” over 50 flavors (although every flavor isn’t available every day), you will definitely find a favorite or two. (Bada Bing Cherry, Mango Tango & Strawberry were some of my personal favorites.)

Believe it or not, that’s not the end of the yumminess. Even though it’s called Joe’s Italian Ice, that’s not all they serve. They also have this incredible soft serve ice cream, that they ship in from Pennsylvania! Hello?! If they’re shipping in the ice cream, all the way from Pennsylvania, you know it is got to be good. (A Butterscotch dipped cone or thick & creamy shake is sounding so tasty right now!)

So enough of my ramblings. I honestly could go on & on about Joe’s Italian Ice. But, it ‘s really a place you just have to experience for yourself. Make a special trip, or stop by on your way home from Disneyland… trust me, you’ll thank me later!

02.01.2010 | Divine Desserts

There’s a new cupcake shop in town & boy am I in love. Okay, so it’s not exactly “new” seeing that they’ve been open for almost a year, but Divine Desserts is new-to-me. But, let me tell you, my hubby might be in trouble, because I think I am in love – I’m definitely dreaming about Divine Desserts night & day.

Awhile back, during the hustle & bustle of the holiday season, Divine Desserts invited us out to sample some of their delicious-ness. They specialize in in cupcakes, cookies, muffin tops (who doesn’t remember that Seinfeld episode?), & frosting shots. After sampling, sampling & sampling what seemed to be dozens of flavors, I’m here to tell you, you won’t be disappointed. With a selection of 20 flavors offered every day, you will easily find one, two or three that will quickly become your favorite! I’m totally crushing on their Red Velvet, Gavin (my 4 year old) devoured the Cookie Dough, Owen (my 3 year old) took a particular liking to the Key Lime Cake, & Charlie (my 8 month old) absolutely LOVED the Pina Colada frosting shots.

01.05.2010 | 12 for Tuesday: Disney Treats & Eats to Crave

For me, part of the “Disney” experience is definitely the yummy treats. Rarely do I go & not get something to nibble on. Sometimes, only an entire meal can suffice me. Other times all I need is a little sugar fix. Here are some of my favorite Disney treats & eats, in no particular order…

1. Corn Dog from the Little Red Wagon on Main St.
2. The Dole Whip at the Tiki Juice Bar, outside the Tiki Room
3. Chicken Tenders from the Stage Door Cafe
4. Churro (have you tried the filled churros found in Downtown Disney?)
5. The famed Monte Cristo from either Cafe Orleans or the Blue Bayou
6. Beignets from Cafe Orleans (you can also pick some up from The Jazz Kitchen in Downtown Disney)
7. Turkey Leg
8. Funnel Cake from the Stage Door Cafe
9. Sonoma Chicken & Apple Salad from the Pacific Wharf Cafe in California Adventure
10. Candy Apples on Main St.

So which of YOUR favorite Disney treats or eats did I leave off the list?
